eVisas are electronic visas. When applying for them you won’t need to submit your actual passport to the embassy. Instead, the application can be done online with a copy of your passport. In some cases, additional documents may be required, but copies of these are also uploaded electronically.
This option isn’t available for every visa, as only some countries have introduced them. When you select the country you’re travelling to on our map, you’ll be able to see what visa options are available for that country.
When an eVisa is issued, it’s going to be emailed to you. In most cases you will need to print out the eVisa and carry it with you when you travel - both airline staff and immigration officers will need to see it. They will either scan the barcode on the eVisa or type in the eVisa number, which will allow the immigration officer to find your details in their system.
Processing times for the eVisas vary greatly - the Australian eVisitor is usually issued in as little as 24 hours, whereas a Ukrainian eVisa can take a couple of weeks! Exact timings can be found in each visa description.
